Today the under 9ís visited Coundon Court school to play higher tier opponents Coundon U9ís. The weather was atrocious but the lads took that in their stride and were excited to get going.
The first five minutes of the game didnít go according to plan with the hosts going two up. Our response couldnít of been any better. We piled on the pressure and pulled one back after Hendrix Neals long range strike was flapped at by the keeper and Seb Garratt was on hand to stab the ball home. The Southam onslaught continued, Gethyn Mills played a measured ball through to Harvey Miller who produced a fantastic turn and shot which found the corner of the net from a really acute angle. Harvey Miller soon put Southam ahead after some great play from Charlie Cleeton-Pritchett to create the opportunity. The half ended with an incredible save from our talented keeper Kenzie Leigh. Iím still wondering how he managed to tip that shot around the post!!!!
The second half was much the same, Southam had some more chances to extend their lead but were denied by some great saves from the opposition keeper. Coundon rarely threatened mainly because of the tireless pressing and strength from Josh Barnett, Jo Barker and Jayden Morgan.
I thought my players were exceptional today despite having a opposition coach officiating the game, he was extremely abusive and hot headed. My players stayed professional throughout and represented the club in the right way. A well deserved win and so many positives to take forward.
